Canada Temporary Work Permit.

Each year, nearly 200,000 foreign workers come to Canada on temporary work permits.

To work temporarily in Canada, temporary foreign workers must hold a temporary job offer from a Canadian employer and a temporary work permit issued by Employment and Social Development Canada (DCAT).
It is a multistep process. Depending on the nationality of the foreign worker, a temporary resident visa (TRV) may be required to enter Canada.

Step 3: The qualified foreign worker applies for a work permit.
Step 4: A work permit is issued.

Before a license is issued Canadian labor, the Canadian employer who wishes to hire a foreign worker may need to do an impact study of demand on the labor market (EIMT) first, to be issued by DCAT. Then DCAT issue an impact study on the positive labor market if they are indeed convinced that no Canadian worker available on the market to perform this work. Work permits are issued by Canadian immigration agents when they do not require an impact study on the labor market; that is to say, in the following cases:

Under an international agreement, such as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA);
Due to economic, social or cultural benefits that Canada could benefit;
Under reciprocal agreements that Canada and its provinces / territories have concluded with other countries, such as youth exchange program or exchange teachers;
When students can fulfill academic requirements, such as co-op;
To allow spouses / partners of licensed work or some study permit to work in Canada;
Due to a working religious or charitable;
Under other reasons than those mentioned above, such as an asylum seeker who has no other means of livelihood.



Step 2: Employer extends its offer of temporary employment.
Once the impact study on the labor market issued, the Canadian employer can extend its offer of temporary employment to skilled foreign worker. The employer must send a copy of the impact study on the positive labor market, with a detailed job the foreign worker.

Step 3: The qualified foreign worker applies for a work permit.
With these documents, the foreign worker can apply for a work permit to DCAT for a temporary Canadian work permit. If a Canadian employer hires within the province of Quebec, the temporary worker must also obtain a Certificate of Acceptance of Quebec (CAQ) for temporary workers in Quebec


Step 4: A work permit is issued.

An agent of the Agency of Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) will issue a permit for temporary work at Canadian port of entry when the foreign worker arrives in Canada.
