Re-Opening of Federal Skilled Worker Program

Wednesday, April 23, 2014 the Canada Government has announced of new professions and caps for the popular federal skilled worker (FSW) program. Other important information announced for skilled occupations Federal (FST) and category of the Canadian experience (CEC) of programs.

The changes come into force for the three programs from May 1, 2014.

"It is a highly anticipated and exciting announcement for applicants from around the world," said attorney David Cohen. "I am certain that in the coming days, we will see an incredible amount of excitement generated for the FSW in particular, which has always been the most popular way for Canadian permanent residence."
 

Skilled workers federal announcements

Since May 1, 2014, the FSW will accept a total of 25 000 new applications. Applicants must have at least one year of work experience in one of the 50 eligible professions. A maximum of 1000 applications will be accepted by the eligible profession.

The qualifying occupations include many widely practical professions. They are as follows:

Senior managers - financial, communications and other services to companies (NOC 0013)
Senior managers - trade, broadcasting and other services, NEC (0015)

Purchasing managers (0113)

Applicants FSW program will be evaluated according to the same criteria as 2013. candidates are assessed on a grid of points taking into account important factors such as education, language skills, work experience, age and adaptability to the Canada. All applicants must meet the minimum language requirements in french or English.

In addition to skilled workers, the program includes FSW flow for PhD graduates and individuals who received qualifying employment offers Canadian employers. A maximum of 500 doctoral candidates will be accepted in the context of the upcoming program. Candidates holding valid job offers are not subject to ceilings for admission.

Qualified by the federal component sales ads

The TSP program is for candidates with experience in a skilled trade. Since May 1st, the TSP program will accept a maximum of 5000 requests for review. All level NOC B occupations will be eligible for this program. This equates to a total of 90 different professions.

A maximum of 100 applications will be accepted under a single occupancy. 90 eligible professions fall into the following general categories:

Major group 72: industrial, trades of electricity and construction;
Major group 73: maintenance and equipment operating occupations;
Major group 82: supervisors and technical occupations in national resources, agriculture and the associated production;
Major group 92: processing, manufacturing and utilities supervisors and central control operators;
Group minor 632: chefs and cooks;
Group minor 633: butchers and bakers

Canadian Experience Class Announcements


The CEC program was created for those who have already acquired experience working in the Canada. Since May 1, the program will accept a maximum of 8000 new applications. Any skilled occupation is eligible *, but level NOC B occupations for a maximum of 100 applications will be accepted by the profession.

* The following six trades are not eligible for the CEC:

The administrative officers (NOC 1221)
Assistant administrative (1241)
Accounting technicians / Accountants (1311)
Kitchen (6322)
Supervisors of services food (6311)
Retail sales supervisors (6211)

What does it mean for candidates

Many potential immigrants have been eagerly anticipating these changes will be announced. This new information confirms that the three programmes are open again.

The FSW program is more open to candidates that it has been in recent years. The ceiling has increased more than five times as many, from only 5,000 year last to 25,000 this year. In addition, the number of eligible occupations has more than doubled, from just 24 last year at 50 effective May 1. This means that skilled workers who are not eligible for the program the previous years because of their professional experience may now be eligible to apply.
