On
April 1, 2014, the popular Quebec skilled worker program (QSW) began
accepting applications under the same conditions of eligibility that the
cycle from the previous application. Between April 1, 2014 and on March 31, 2015, the program limit its consumption of 6500 applications application.
According
to David Cohen, this is good news for candidates around the world, and a
sign that the province of Quebec continues to open its doors to new
arrivals.
"April 1, 2014 rules of the Quebec immigration for skilled workers program to expire," said attorney David Cohen. "In the days and weeks leading up to this date, it was not clear this plan of action in the province would take." I for one am pleased Quebec will continue to welcome immigrants with the skills and experience of the needs of the province. "
Current eligibility criteria
The QSW program accepts applications for workers from a wide range of environments. No offer of employment is required to apply to this program. At a minimum, applicants must:
Have at least a level of secondary education; and
Mark a minimum number of points on a grid of selection.
Points
are awarded for a variety of attributes, including but not limited to:
work experience, education, language proficiency, age, and adaptability.
In addition, the program will accept a maximum of 6500 workers without job applications. Effective on Monday, April 14 about 800 applications have already been received. The implications of this ceiling were discussed in detail in a recent article of CIC news, which can be read here.
Immigrating to Québec
The applicants selected by the QSW program receive Canadian permanent residence. Permanent residents are granted the freedom to travel, to live and work anywhere in the Canada.
Many, if not most, QSW success-seekers choose to stay in Quebec. Those that do become residents of one of the most populous, diverse and dynamic of the Canada provinces.
Québec is home to an expanding economy, with sectors booming in the technology and health industries. Although
the french is the official language of the province, English is widely
spoken in the region of Montreal, the largest city in Quebec. Immigrants
who wish to learn the french and more actively integrate into Quebec
society can do it for free, thanks to a well-organized system of
language courses sponsored by the Government.
